BREAD PUDDING 
2 c. bread
1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. milk
5 eggs
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Break bread into pieces. Melt butter, pour over bread tossing lightly. Heat milk in a double boiler. Beat eggs lightly; add sugar, salt, vanilla and nutmeg. Add hot milk slowly to egg mixture, mixing constantly. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour over bread and mix. Pour mixture into slightly greased 13 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch cake pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 30 minutes or until mixture is set and golden brown.

NUTMEG SAUCE:

1 1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. salt
3 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Mix all ingredients together. Boil on low heat until thickened (about 5 minutes). 1 cup raisins may be added to pudding or sauce if desired.
