CORNBREAD 
1 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
1 c. cornmeal
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. milk
1/4 c. soft shortening

Sift together flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir in cornmeal. Mix egg, milk and soft shortening. Add to flour mixture. Mix only until all flour is dampened. Bake in a greased, shallow pan, in a hot oven, 425 degrees for 25 minutes.
