BAKED BEANS | |
2 lb. navy beans 1/2 lb. side pork, cut in chunks 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can tomato soup 2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 med. sized onion Soak beans overnight, then bring to a boil and add one tablespoon baking soda. Mix and pour off water. Cover beans with water and bring to a boil 2 more times. The third time save the water. Place half of the beans in a 4 quart pan and put half of sugar, soup, salt, and side pork on top of the beans. Repeat. Cover with saved water, place cover on beans and bake for 8 hours at 300 degrees. Remove cover during the last hour of baking. Keep beans covered with water at all times. Best if left standing for a while before serving. |
