3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Brer Rabbit mild New Orleans molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg; beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt; add to first mixture. Mix well; chill. Form in 1 inch ball, the size of a walnut. Roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets two inches apart. Bake in 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
