2 LAYER YELLOW CAKE | |
NOTE: This cake may be made larger or smaller just by increasing or decreasing the ingredients, remembering that for every cup of flour use 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/3 cup shortening, 1 pinch salt, 1/2 cup milk, 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. 2 cups flour 2 tsp. baking powder 2 pinches salt 1 cup sugar 2/3 cup shortening 2 eggs 1 cup milk 1 tsp. vanilla Put flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Add vanilla and eggs to the milk. Put shortening in the flour mixture and add 2/3 of the liquid. Mix by hand for 3 or 4 minutes or use a mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes. Add remaining liquid and beat for 2 more minutes with beater or 3 minutes by hand. Scrape down bowl often. Pour into 2 greased or sprayed (8") pans or 1 large oblong pan. Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes. Test to see if cake is done using a wooden toothpick; cake is done if toothpick comes out clean. Frost with any frosting or eat plain or with berries, ice cream, etc. |
