BOSTON BROWN BREAD | |
1 c. brown sugar (packed) 1 c. white flour 1 c. Bran Flakes (40%) (crush down) - crush Bran Flakes before measuring 1 c. sour milk (sweet milk with 1 tbsp. vinegar) 1 heaping tsp. baking soda - mix with flour 1/2 c. chopped nuts - pecans 1/2 c. raisins (soak in hot water to soften, drain then flour them) Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves. Mix together Bran Flakes and sugar. Add portions of sour milk and flour alternately. Flour nuts and raisins in separate bowl before adding to mixture. Use #303 cans. Be sure cans are well greased and floured - using Pam saves possible cuts from sharp edges. If you double the recipe, you can get five nice size loaves. Fill cans approximately 2/3 - they will rise pretty much. |
