OATMEAL BROWNIES 
2 1/2 c. quick cooking oats
3/4 c. all purpose flour
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. butter, melted

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Mix oats, flour, brown sugar and soda; stir in butter. Reserve 3/4 cup of oatmeal mixture. Press remaining in pan. Bake 10 minutes. Cool 5 minutes.

Prepare brownies as directed. Spread over baked layer. Sprinkle with reserved oatmeal mixture. Bake until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan, about 35 minutes. Cool; cut into squares. About 4 dozen.

BROWNIES:

4 sq. (1 oz. each) unsweetened chocolate
2/3 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Heat chocolate with shortening until melted. Stir in sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix in remaining ingredients. Spread over oatmeal crust.
