HOT CROSS BUNS 
3 1/4 to 3 3/4 c. flour
1 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1 egg
3/4 c. currants
2 tbsp. lemon peel
1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. water

Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, salt and spices. Set aside. Heat milk, 1/2 cup water and butter to 125 degrees. Add to flour mixture. Add egg. Stir in currants, rind, and enough flour to handle. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Cover; let rise until double. Divide into 18 rolls. Place on greased cookie sheet, sides touching. Cover; let rise 30 minutes. Combine egg yolk and 1 tablespoon water. Brush on buns. Bake at 375 degrees 10 to 12 minutes. Cool. Combine 1 cup confectioners sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 3 to 4 teaspoons water. Make cross with frosting on each roll.
