MAPLE WALNUT BARS 
1 egg
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/3 c. melted butter
1 tsp. maple flavoring
1 c. English walnuts, coarsely chopped
1/2 c. chopped seeded raisins

Beat egg; add sugar and blend. Add melted butter, flour, flavoring, walnuts and raisins and blend well until well mixed.

Spread evenly in greased 8x8x2 inch pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Remove from oven; cool in pan and cut into squares with sharp knife. Yield: 16 to 20 squares.

Be warned - don't try to double this recipe; it just won't work. Make two separate batches and cook it in the same oven, but don't double and divide the batter. It seems to upset the proportions of the recipe.
