HOMEMADE BOSTON BAKED BEANS 
2 c. navy or pea beans
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
4 tbsp. chopped onions
1 bay leaf
1/4 c. molasses
1/4 lb. piece of salt pork or bacon slab
1 c. hot water

Wash beans. Cover with cold water, soak overnight. Drain, cover with large amount boiling water. Boil slowly 1 hour. Drain.

Combine salt, sugar, molasses, bay leaf, mustard, onions and water. Add to beans. Pour into bean pot. Cut up bacon slab, and press into beans. Cover beans with more water. Cover with lid. Bake in slow oven at 300 degrees for 4 hours or until beans are tender. Remove cover the last 1/2 hour. Delicious! Enjoy!
