1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 round tsp. baking powder
1 scant tsp. baking soda
1 egg
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
Boiling water
Crisco
Vanilla

Mix first 7 ingredients well. Add 1 cup boiling water, 1/3 cup Crisco (approximately 3 rounded tablespoons). Stir until shortening is dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes in square cake pan which has been greased and lightly floured. Frost with white frosting when cool.
