6 tsp. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. milk
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
5 tbsp. cocoa

Cream together shortening and sugar, add egg, milk and vanilla. Blend in flour, soda, cocoa and salt. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 7 minutes.

FILLING:

3/4 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Boil milk and flour until a thick paste, stirring constantly. Cool. Mix shortening, sugar, butter, vanilla and add cooled paste and beat until fluffy. Spread between 2 cookies, sandwich style. Makes about 2 1/2 dozen.
