JAM CAKE 
2 1/2 c. white sugar
6 egg yolks, well beaten
1 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 c. buttermilk
1 c. jam or jelly
1 c. raisins
1 c. strawberry preserves
1 c. pear preserves or any other jam or jelly
1 c. broken nuts
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
6 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Sift flour with sugar until very light, add egg yolks and beat thoroughly. Add buttermilk and soda alternately with dry ingredients. Mix jam, raisins, preserves and nuts together. Add this to the creamed mixture. Fold beaten egg whites into the batter, gently but well. Pour into 3 round or 1 oblong pan, greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until done.
