RED VELVET CAKE 
2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cocoa
3/4 c. salad oil
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 bottle red food coloring (less 4 or 5 drops)
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
3/4 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa in a bowl. Cream oil and 1/2 cup sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add coloring. Combine the buttermilk and baking soda. Mix well. Add to oil-sugar mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Add vinegar and vanilla; mix well. Spoon into 2 greased 9" round pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Combine milk (3/4 cup) and 1/2 cup sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Spoon evenly over layers before frosting.
