HARVEST APPLE CAKE WITH CARAMEL
ICING
 
2 1/3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
4 c. pared and coarsely grated apples
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 eggs
8 walnut halves

In large bowl sift flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and spices. Add apples, shortening and chopped nuts and eggs. Beat well. Turn into 2 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans.

Bake at 325°F for 45 minutes. Cool 15 minutes. Remove from pans. Frost sides and top with caramel icing. Decorate with walnut halves.
