BABA'S SPECIAL TWIST COOKIES | |
3 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 cubes butter 1 env. yeast 1/4 c. water 3/4 c. sour cream 1 whole egg plus 2 egg yolks 1 tsp. vanilla 1 1/2 c. sugar Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water. In large bowl combine flour and salt. Cut in butter. Add yeast a little bit at a time, add sour cream, eggs, vanilla. Work and mix dough well until it falls from your hand. Form into a ball, wrap in damp towel and refrigerate overnight. Next day roll 1/2 the dough (keep other half in refrigerator) using just a little bit of flour. Fold into thirds. Sprinkle 1/2 cup sugar on board. Roll dough into rectangle again, fold 3 times. Repeat 2 more times with remaining sugar. Then roll out like for noodles, cut into 1"x5" strips. Twist each strip and fold in half, pressing ends together. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly brown, about 8 minutes. Remove immediately and cool. Dust with powdered sugar. Repeat with other half of dough. 80 to 85 cookies. |
