1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts
2 c. apples, chopped
1 tsp. baking soda in tbsp. of boiling water
1 c. flour

Mix ingredients in order listed. Put in 9 inch greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Serve with Cool Whip.
