APPLE DUMPLINGS 
Pastry for 9 inch 2 crust pies
6 med. tart apples
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 c. water
4 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Roll out pastry a little less than 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 1 inch squares. Peel and slice apples. Boil next 4 ingredients together for 3 minutes. Place one sliced apple on each square. In a measuring cup mix remaining sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter. Bring opposite points of pastry up over apple filling, overlapping, moisten and seal each. Lift carefully and place a little apart in 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Pour hot syrup around dumplings and bake immediately for 40-45 minutes. Serve warm like apple pie.
