MARY THOMAS' LOAF BREAD
1 pkg. dry (or quick) yeast
5 c. flour (maybe a bit more)
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. water
1 c. milk
1/3 c. fat - Crisco
1 egg

Mix 1/2 of all dry ingredients in big bowl of mixer. Set aside. Heat water, milk and fat until more than lukewarm (fat does not have to melt entirely). Pour liquids over 1/2 dry ingredients, mixing while you pour. Add another cup of flour, still mixing, add egg, mix more; then the rest of the flour. Mix until dough begins to pull away from sides of bowl. Knead in the bowl. Use Crisco oil on top of dough. Cover; let double in size. Flour hands and knead a bit more, divide in half to make two loaves. Let rise until double again. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes; reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 20 minutes more.
