ABRUZZI STYLE (MARINARA) TOMATO
SAUCE
 
1 (1 lb.) can crushed tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
4 c. water
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 med. onion, chopped fine
4 tbsp. oil, preferably olive
1 tsp. fresh or dry basil
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. chopped garlic

In large saucepan, saute the onions and garlic in the oil. Add the cans of tomatoes, water and all other ingredients. Heat to boil then lower to simmer. Cook for at least 1 hour, continually stirring.

Optional: You may add fried meatballs and-or Italian sausage with other ingredients.

Serves over any pasta. Serves 6 to 8.
