BUTTERLESS EGGLESS MILKLESS

1 lb. raisins
1 c. cold water
1 c. lard or shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda
5 c. flour

Stew raisins in water for 15 minutes. Cream shortening add sugar. Sift soda and salt and spices with flour, add the cup of cold water. Add. Mix flour adding the stewed raisins last. Pour into greased and floured 8 inch cake pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until done.
