FRENCH FRIED ONION RINGS 
3 or 4 lg. onions
2 to 3 c. buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. water
1 c. all purpose flour
1 tbsp. salad oil
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
Cooking oil

Peel onions and slice about 3/8 inch thick; separate into rings. Pour buttermilk into pan; add onion rings and allow to soak 30 minutes. Combine egg, salt, baking powder, water, flour, salad oil, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper, stir until smooth. Heat cooking oil, remove onion rings from buttermilk and dip into batter, fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towel.
