CHERRY TORTE 
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 tbsp. butter
1 egg
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 (No. 2) can cherries, drained
1/4 c. nutmeats

Sift dry ingredients together. Mix butter and sugar together, add egg. Add cherries, then dry ingredients and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees.

SAUCE:

Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cornstarch to juice from cherries. Cook until it thickens. Cool. Serve sauce cold over whipped cream over torte.
