PEPPER STEAK 
1 1/2 lb. round steak
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 (8 oz.) can tomatoes
1/2 c. chopped onion
2 lg. green peppers
Mushrooms, if desired
1 3/4 c. water
1 garlic clove
1/4 c. flour
1 tbsp. gravy base
1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Cut meat into 1 1/2 inch strips, shake with flour, salt and pepper. Brown meat in shortening. Drain tomatoes and add liquid to water. Add water mixture, onions, garlic and gravy base. Cover and simmer 1 1/4 hours. Uncover. Add Worcestershire sauce and green peppers and mushrooms if desired. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add tomatoes and simmer another 10 minutes. Serve over rice or noodles.
