GERMAN CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 c. shortening 4 eggs 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk 3 c. flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla 1 bar German sweet chocolate, softened Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and mix well. Add buttermilk and mix. Add flour, soda, salt and vanilla. Beat well. Add chocolate and combine until chocolate is throughout batter. Pour into a greased 9-inch tube pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees. When done, remove from pan immediately and put in an airtight container to "sweat" the cake. Yield: 16 servings. |
