Squeeze 1 large orange and mix juice with 1/2 cup sugar and set aside.

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2/3 c. sour milk
2 c. flour
Grated or ground rind of 1 orange (peel leftover from squeezed orange)
1 c. raisins, grind with orange rind
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix shortening and sugar, add slightly beaten eggs. Add soda to sour milk and mix alternately with flour, which has been sifted with the salt. Add raisins and orange rind, which have been ground together.

Bake at 350 degrees in a 9x13 inch pan for 45 minutes to 1 hour. While cake is hot from oven, pour juice with sugar over top.
