2 2/3 c. sifted powdered sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten well
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. cocoa

Mix 4 tablespoons granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons water in a saucepan. Add cocoa to this mixture for chocolate frosting or leave out for white frosting. Bring just to a boil; do not boil. Add hot mixture to the above ingredients which have been mixed well. Beat all together in mixer at high speed.
