BATTER: 2 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs 4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 c. cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. boiling water 1 c. sour milk FILLING: 5 tbsp. flour 1 c. milk 1 c. powdered sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla BATTER: Cream sugar, shortening, and eggs; add flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa. Add alternately sour milk, vanilla, and boiling water. Mix well and drop by teaspoons on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Add more flour if cookies flatten too much. FILLING: Cook 5 tablespoons flour and 1 cup milk to paste form. Cool to lukewarm. Mix together powdered sugar, salt, butter, shortening, and vanilla. Drop cooled paste into sugar mixture and beat with electric mixer until creamy and fluffy. Put filling between 2 cookies. |
