ENGLISH TRIFLE 
1 pound cake
Rum or brandy
Fruit (apricots, raspberries, pineapple)
Raspberry Jam
Strawberry Jello
Boiled custard (see ingredients and recipe below)
Whipped cream
Crushed walnuts

BOILED CUSTARD:

2 c. milk
3 tbsp. sugar
Yolks of 3 eggs
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. vanilla

Heat milk in top of double boiler over boiling water. Add sugar and stir. Beat egg yolks and cornstarch together in a small bowl. Add a little milk in egg yolks and stir well, gradually add the rest of the milk. Cook until well thickened, stirring 5 minutes. Cool and add vanilla. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Break cake into pieces in bottom of a glass bowl. Soak with rum or brandy. Layer in the bowl, cake, fruit, jam, jello and custard. Top with whipped cream and crushed walnuts.
