MOM'S RED CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 heaping tbsp. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream together butter, sugar, eggs. Make a paste of the cocoa and food coloring and add to creamed mixture. Sift flour and salt together and add alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla. In sauce dish mix vinegar and soda together (hold over bowl while mixing as they foam up). Add to the rest. Bake in layer pans (greased and floured) at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

Frost with Fluffy Frosting.

FLUFFY FROSTING:

1 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Stir flour into milk and cook until thickens. Cool to room temperature. Cream together rest of ingredients very well. Add cooled white sauce and beat, beat, beat until sugar is dissolved and frosting is smooth and not grainy.
