SAUCEPAN SPICE CAKE 
1 c. raisins
2 c. water
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. each ground cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Simmer raisins in water 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add shortening and stir until melted. Cool. Sift together dry ingredients. Add nuts. Blend into raisin mixture. Pour in greased and floured 9 x 5 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

Broiled Topping:

1 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. cream
2 tbsp. melted butter

Mix ingredients. Spread over cake after baking. Set under broiler for a few minutes until delicately browned.

You may also use just confectioners frosting.
