MAKE AHEAD SWEET AND SOUR
CABBAGE
 
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 lb. ground beef or turkey meat
1 med. onion, chopped
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce plus 1 can water
1/4 c. lemon juice
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 med. cabbage, chopped
1 apple, peeled, cored, sliced
Rice or noodles, cooked (for 4-6 servings)

Brown beef and onion in oil in heavy pot. Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer, covered, over low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. (Slow cooker is fine to use.) Cool and refrigerate 24 hours to allow flavors to meld. Reheat and serve over rice or noodles. Serves 4 to 6.
