3/4 c. milk 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/4 c. shortening 1/4 c. warm water 1 pkg. dry yeast 1 egg, beaten 3 3/4 c. flour Scald the milk. Add the 1/4 cup sugar, salt and shortening. Cool until lukewarm. While the milk is cooling, mix the 1/4 cup warm water, 1 package yeast and 1/8 teaspoon sugar together. Add the warm milk mixture to the warm yeast mixture, the egg and 1/2 the flour together and mix. Add the rest of the flour and knead well. Raise until doubled. Punch down. Roll out the dough and cut in squares large enough to wrap a prune in (1/2 prune to make smaller). Pinch the dough together well to seal in the prune. Let rise. Deep fry in Puritan oil until golden brown. If you like roll the balls in sugar while they are still warm. Enjoy with a cup of coffee and a friend. |
