TRAIL MIX SNACK 
This is a nutritious mixture easily made at home - wonderful for snacks at home or portion it into small snack bags to pack in lunches or bring along on day trips. Great for kids to make and eat!

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Combine the following ingredients in given proportions or to suit your own taste:

1 1/2 cups oats
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup nuts
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup blanched slivered almonds
1/2 cup mixed color raisins or Craisins (or both)
1/2 cup coconut

Mix together:

1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. pure vanilla
1/4 cup honey

Pour over dry mixture. Spread evenly on oiled baking sheet.

Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring once or twice. Cool and break up any lumps.

Store in an airtight container.

Variation: Add a 1/2 tsp. cinnamon for a different taste.

Everything is on a good basis except the vegetable oil. Vegetable oil is a processed oil and therefore not a good fat regardless of what everyone believes. What you need to do is find an alternative to the oil without hitting on a processed fat.

I agree with Kittykat... but a good alternative to the vegetable oil is coconut oil :-)

Walnut oil or even an organic pasture butter would be healthier than the vegetable oil.
