SANTA MARIA BEANS 
2 lbs. Poquitos Santa Maria beans
1 env. chili mix
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, diced
1/2 lb. ground beef
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. M.S. G.
1 1/2 c. tomato juice

Cover beans generously with water, bring to boil and add salt and pepper. Turn heat to simmer and cook 2 hours, or until tender. Beans may be soaked overnight to reduce cooking time. Saute bacon, onion, garlic, seasonings, and chili mix, add ground beef and cook until it looses pink color. Add tomato juice, add to beans and simmer 1 hour. 12 servings.

The Poquitos are very much required for this recipe. I have made it for 40 years or so. But you also forgot to mention the bacon! the bacon and oregano are 2 of the must haves in the recipe. It give it the distinct flavor. Of course also lots of garlic!!!

sorry I did see the bacon in the directions!!! but I didn't on the ingredient list! I apologize!! But so glad the you did indeed usse the bacon!! I mean it does bring out the yummm factor in the SM Beans recipe!!!
