CRISP CUCUMBER PICKLES 
7 lb. cucumbers, sliced thin
1 qt. lime
1 box alum
1 1/2 lb. plain salt
1/2 box pickling spices
5 lbs. sugar

Soak cucumbers in lime water 12 to 14 hours. Drain and soak four hours in salt water. Drain and soak 2 hours in ice water. Bring to boil in 1 box alum water. Drain and wash in hot water.

Drain and boil with vinegar, sugar and spices for 30 minutes. Put in jars and seal. Be sure to wash cucumbers well before putting in salt water. Be sure alum water just comes to a boil.
