ORANGE DATE POLE CAKE 
Grated rind and juice of 1 orange
Grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
2 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Blend grated rind, juices with 1 cup sugar. Set aside. Blend 1 cup sugar, butter, egg and vanilla, beat well. Sift flour with soda and stir in alternately with buttermilk. Fold in dates and nuts. Spoon into a greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.

When cake is done, immediately poke the top full of holes with a fork. Spoon on the fruit juice mixture.
