NEW ENGLAND BAKED BEANS | |
1 1/2 lb. dry navy beans (3 c.) 9 c. water 1 med. onion, chopped 1 c. ketchup 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 additional c. water 2 tsp. dry mustard 2 tbsp. dark molasses 1 tbsp. salt 1/4 lb. bacon, ham or salt pork, diced Simmer dry beans in 3 times their volume of unsalted water for 30 minutes. Allow to stand, covered, for 1 1/2 hours or until softened; drain and put in crock pot. Add all remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover and cook on low heat 10-12 hours. Longer does not hurt. |
