CRANBERRY-RAISIN COOKIES 
1 c. water
2 c. raisins, dried craisins or dried cherries
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. nuts (optional)

Combine dried fruit and water. Cook for 3 minutes and cool. Cream shortening, eggs, sugar and vanilla.

Combine dry ingredients, mixing well; gradually add to creamed mixture. Will be stiff. Add fruit and nuts. Drop by tablespoon on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 12 to 14 minutes at 350°F.

Makes 6 dozen.
