SWISS STEAK IN BROWN GRAVY 
1 inch thick round steak
1 pkg. dry onion soup mix
Flour
Vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. With a sharp knife, gently make approximately 1/4 inch deep slits across meat in 3 directions, both sides of meat. Dip meat in flour. Cut meat up in pieces approximately 4 x 4 inches. Brown in iron fry pan in hot oil. Place browned steak in 2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle on onion soup mix. Add enough water to cover meat. cover.

Bake at least 2 hours. Mix 1 heaping tablespoon flour with 2/3 cup water and thicken liquid in the baking dish (do not remove meat) just before serving.
