RAISED DOUGHNUTS | |
2 pkg. yeast 1 c. lukewarm water 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 c. milk 2 eggs, well beaten 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 7 c. or more of sifted flour ICING: 2 c. powdered sugar 3 tbsp. melted butter 3 tbsp. milk 1 tsp. vanilla Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add butter to 1 cup milk and melt to scald stage and cool. Beat eggs, add sugar, salt, and nutmeg. Add milk and yeast mixtures. Add flour and knead until dough can be handled without sticking. Let rise until double. Work down, roll out and cut into doughnuts. Let them rise until double. Fry in deep oil or Crisco. Mix all ingredients in icing together. Dip doughnuts while warm in icing. Makes 36-40 doughnuts. I used this recipe for years to make doughnuts for Bible School. |
