FROSTED FRUIT BARS 
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
1/3 c. butter, softened
1 egg
1 tbsp. grated orange peel (opt.)
1/4 c. orange or pineapple juice
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 c. raisins
1 c. mixed candied fruit
Powdered Sugar Glaze (below)

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix sugar, shortening, butter, egg, orange peel and orange juice. Stir in remaining ingredients except glaze. Spread in greased jelly roll pan, 15 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 1". Bake until top springs back when touched, about 15 minutes; cool slightly. Spread with Powdered Sugar Glaze. Cut into bars, 3"x2". Yield; about 2 dozen.

POWDERED SUGAR GLAZE: Beat 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and 2 to 3 tablespoons milk until smooth and of desired consistency.
