WHOLE WHEAT BREAD | |
1 1/2 c. milk 6 tbsp. sugar 6 tsp. salt 2/3 c. shortening 2/ 3c. molasses Scald milk. Stir in sugar, salt, shortening and molasses. Cool to lukewarm. Measure into bowl 3 cups warm water. Sprinkle 4 packages yeast into the water. Stir until dissolved. Stir in lukewarm milk mixture. Add half mixture of 8 cups whole wheat flour, 4 cups sifted flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour mixture. Knead. Let rise in bowl, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour, 15 minutes. Punch down, knead. Put in pans. Let rise, about 1 hour. Bake in hot oven at 400 degrees about 50 minutes. |
