I, too have been making these for over 30 yrs. If you've tried them and love them but think they might be a bit too sweet, substitute peanut butter morsels for the the butterscotch ones. Delicious!

This is a rally sweet recipe. I found great success by adding a liberal amount of coarse sea salt over the top layer - it really cut the sweetness.

I have been making these for years and they are great. Misplaced so looked it up here. Same recipe except I always do the milk last that holds the whole thing together. Also I have had some fun with variation use white chocolate chips instead for regular chocolate and dried cherries or cranberries instead of the butterscotch. Also other variations with great success. Use your imagination, will still work the same.

You have to press each layer down with a fork, then you can avoid the cookie from falling apart when you cut them up..

I have been making these for about 7 years now. They are great with either walnuts or pecans. Although I have to say I would like to know why every recipe I see online says don't mix the chips, milk, coconut, and nuts. I was taught to mix them together and have never had a problem making them. When I tried doing it without mixing it the cookies basically just fall apart. When I do it layered I do milk then the rest layer by layer like instructed but they always seem to just fall apart when I go to cut them and serve them.

Use chopped pecans instead of walnuts. What leftovers? They never last around our house long enough to worry about storing them.

Bahahaha! Right.

Very easy and delicious if you like coconut. However, I was wondering the best way to store them.
