NORWEGIAN BRAID 
1 pkg. yeast
3 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. cardamon powder
3/4 c. milk
4 tbsp. butter
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg

In a large bowl, mix 3/4 cup flour, yeast and cardamon. Heat milk, butter, sugar and salt until warm. Add to flour-yeast mixture. Add egg. Beat at low speed 1/2 minute. Continue beating on high speed for 3 minutes. Mix in remaining flour by hand. Knead on a floured surface 5-10 minutes.

Grease bowl, place dough in bowl turning once to coat dough. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours until doubled in bulk. Punch down, form 3 balls. Let stand 10 minutes. Pull each ball into a long roll. Form a braid. Let rise 1 hour or until doubled in bulk. Brush with milk and sugar. Bake 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees.
