2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. shortening
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. sour milk
2 well beaten eggs
3 apples, sliced
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 tsp. cinnamon for topping

Combine flour, salt and sugar; cut in shortening. Reserve 1/2 cup flour mixture. To remaining flour mixture add baking powder, soda and spices. Pour into greased 9 x 13 inch or two 8 x 8 inch pans. Top with sliced apples. Add chopped nuts and cinnamon to reserved mixture for topping. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean from center.
