NO MILK BISCUITS
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. oil or soft shortening (Land O Lakes butter & olive oil spread works great)
2/3 cup water

Preheat oven to 450°F.

Mix all ingredients together. Knead on floured board about 30 seconds. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with small cutter (upturned drinking glass works great).

Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Brush tops of biscuits with melted butter to help them brown.

Bake at 450°F for 15 or so minutes.

Makes 12 or so biscuits.

The biscuits were delicious. Making more now. My granddaughter took all the ones I couldn't eat. I was out of milk and wanted biscuits. Thank you!

I made half a recipe using white spelt flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, 1 tbsp. Spectrum shortening and 2 tbs. unsalted butter. Came out as tasty and tender as any buttermilk biscuit. (Required 1 extra tbsp. of water.)

I agree they came out like briquettes. They were hard as a rock didn't rise and coulda been used as hockey pucks.

Usually if someone is looking for a non-dairy or 'no milk' recipe they also cannot have butter. Land O Lakes has milk in it. Just thought some mike like to know.

 Jane Smith (Indiana) replies:
Yes, I agree. I'm lactose intolerant and the butter would make me ill.

Just FYI, tip on using biscuit cutter, always cut down and bring it out. Make sure it is floured well. When you turn the cutter the biscuit does not raise as well!

I didn't use the exact ingredients, I used margarine instead and I didn't use alot, maybe 4 tbsp. It was a good recipe and I added more water. Thank you!

Very nice. I always add about 1/8 of ACV (Apple cider vinegar) per 1 cup flour to make them puff up a little :) not so secret ingredient. And I cut the butter in with a fork. Great though!
