3 c. flour
2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. vegetable oil
2 tsp. vinegar
2 c. water

Mix all together in bowl. Pour in greased and floured rectangular cake pan. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. As soon as you remove, pour hot topping over hot cake.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter

Melt butter in saucepan; add sugar and milk and heat together. I usually add chopped pecans to this mixture also.
