CRUMB CAKE 
2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. buttermilk or sour milk
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Mix flour and brown sugar with pastry blender. Then coat in butter until dry mixture is evenly coated. Remove 3/4 cup of this mixture and reserve for later use.

Stir soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves into remaining mixture. Add 3/4 cup milk and beat 2 minutes at medium speed.

Add remaining buttermilk and eggs; beat 1 more minute. Pour batter into greased and floured pan (13 x 9 x 2 inches). Add walnuts to the 3/4 cup sugar mixture. Sprinkle evenly over the batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
