TRIPLE DECKER BROWNIES | |
BOTTOM LAYER: 1/2 c. sifted flour 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1 c. quick-cooking rolled oats 1/2 c. brown sugar 6 tbsp. butter, melted Sift together flour, soda and salt. Mix with rolled oats and brown sugar. Stir in butter. Pat mixture into an 11 x 7 x 1 1/2 inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. MIDDLE LAYER: 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate 4 tbsp. butter, melted 3/4 c. granulated sugar 1 egg 2/3 c. sifted flour 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 c. milk 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. walnuts, chopped Melt chocolate and butter; combine with sugar. Add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk and vanilla to chocolate mixture. Fold in nuts. Spread batter over baked layer. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes more. TOP LAYER: 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate 2 tbsp. butter 1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar 1 tsp. vanilla Place chocolate and butter in small saucepan. Stir over low heat until melted. Remove from heat and add confectioners sugar and vanilla. Blend in enough hot water (about 2 tablespoons) to make almost pourable consistency. Spread over baked brownies. Cut into bars and top with a walnut half. |
